Dog Bites

According to the Insurance Information Institute, the liability costs caused by dog bites has been going up for the last five years. Those costs went up nearly 7% percent in 2009 and the number of claims has been increasing steadily since 2005. The Insurance Institute also found that over one-third of homeowner insurance liability claims were caused by dog bite cases.

Homeowner’s insurance usually provides coverage for dog bites and pays compensation for the injuries like medical bills, lost wages, scarring and pain and suffering.

Nearly 4.5 million dog attacks occur each year in the U.S.  Mail carriers and delivery people are especially vulnerable to animal attacks and the U.S. Postal Service reports thousands of attacks on its employees every year.
